Seriously...Fake News Checker?

by Timothy Roberge, 25 February 2017

This site claims to be a resource as a Fake News Checker website.

http://www.fakenewschecker.com/

The site does in fact list a lot of interesting information that can be useful to its users.  And to be honest, I have to admit I have used the site to at least find satirical news sources. However there are some anomalies that make me view this site as a bit suspect.  Therefore, I believe this site (in itself) can be considered fake source of data, simply because it appears to be left bias, and here is why.

Before we get started - it's important to understand the color-coding the site uses for their so-called "Fake" News Sources...here they are:

As of today, they refer to more than 350 sites as Untrustworthy "Fake" News Sources.  Of these, the site reports just 55 of these sites are "left bias", while there are 263 that they claim are "right bias".  Seems a little skewed to me.

Here are some examples of some credible news sources they claim are "right bias".
  • Breitbart News
  • Infowars
  • Prison Planet
  • The Daily Caller
    • NOTE:  Surprising they do not have Fox News listed, I guess they grudgingly gave right leaning politics one legitimate source

However, under the "left bias" banner there is no mention of CNN, MSNBC, USA Today, or any news source that would be commonly referred to as the Mainstream Media.  Wouldn't you think that some of these should be considered "left bias" sources?

Additionally there are 95 news sources listed as having "Conspiracy Bias" defined as..."Sites Known For Promoting "Alternative Facts" And Conspiracy Theories."  Of these 95 sites, there are ONLY 2 sources that are considered to be "left bias".  All the other Conspiracy News Sources are considered "right bias".  This site is clearly trying to show that most of the conspiracy news sources are from the right.

It seems this site is attempting to manipulate the public by trying to imply that Main Stream Media is ALL trustworthy, while all the sites they list in their "so-called Fake News Checker" are fake sources for news.  In order for this site to appear more credible, at least to me, they would need to list at least some of the liberal leaning Mainstream Media
